Weathering Winter

Minnesota winter -- not as tough as I thought, or at least not yet. We saw more snow last week during our trip to Colorado than we have at home! But, all smugness aside, I must admit I am enjoying this smooth transition to Minnesota winters. We had one week of sub-zero wind chills in early December, and since then the temps have been much milder! Okay, usually still not much higher than the 30s or lower 40s, but STILL comfortable enough for running outside with an ear warmer. And now that we have a garage, we're feeling a little more content since at least one of our cars will stay cozy and dry if we do get a storm.

Enough about the weather. I pray all is well with our family and friends. We are both very well. John is finishing up his last week of Christmas vacation. He graciously enjoyed a week with me spent celebrating Christmas and my nephew Isaiah's birthday (he's now 5!) in Colorado Springs. I LOVED the time relaxing, playing, laughing, and loving with my family. And much fun was had by all in the copious snow available. Above is a pic taken of my Dad, Dessie, Malakai (2 1/2 year old nephew) and me making a snow man. My brother Brent, Uncle Terry, and John also spent a lot of their free time pelting each other with snow balls. I am certainly grateful for all of the time I had to reconnect with my family and a few friends.

Isaiah kept us all laughing with his creative quips; when egged on, he would respond with, "Oh yah, I'm going to turn you into an orange hat," or a mountain strawberry, or a T Rex. He then informed us, very seriously, that he has "a lot of ideas in [his] brain." Malakai kept us entertained with the reckless abandonment with which he threw himself around and his almost ceaseless grinning. Dessie, my adopted sister who is now 8, beat me fair and square at a knowledge game about horses and did so very kindly. Ah, I love the kids in my family -- they certainly keep us on our toes. John and I anticipate the harried lifestyle of having children if and when we are blessed, and yet we still look forward to it when the timing is right. We'll let you know. :)

John has been staying very busy with his multiple involvements at school, and I am continuing to find my way in pediatric orthopedics. We are both very thankful for our jobs and for the many gifts God continues to shower upon us. God's blessings upon each of you!
