Home, again

What a week. I am so thankful that it is over!

After coming home from the hospital Sunday afternoon, we settled down to a new normal of baby Sam. Tuesday evening, however, he turned blue around the nose and mouth after a bath. We called our pediatrician's office, and they told us to head to the ER

Our sweet little man endured a lot in the ER. Because he was only 4 days old, everything was a challenge; it took multiple attempts to obtain everything from an IV to an x-ray to even a lumbar puncture. It was tough on John and me but especially on Sam. The resilient little man made it, though.

We were ultimately admitted to the hospital but had to spend the night in the ER because there were no beds available. On Wednesday, Sam had more bloodwork, an echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart), and a sleep study. By Thursday morning, we had the final diagnosis of a small patent foramen ovale, a hole between the 2 upper chambers of the heart. His is small, only 2 mm, and does not require any treatment or even follow-up. Praise God!

It has been a huge blessing to have my mom here to help with Ben and with keeping the house together. Thank you, too, for all of your prayers, e-mails, and calls! I apologize for not personally informing everyone; it's been a lot of just surviving this week.

Blessings on your week! Here are some pictures my mom captured of the weekly events, mostly in chronological order:
